Lego, do the right thing: sell this amazing bicycle with working drivetrain and brakes.

On July 7th, SleepyCow’s bike finally hit 10,000 supporters on Lego Ideas, which means Lego’s gotta decide whether to produce it. While most Ideas are based on existing IP, we do get some mechanical gems like the Typewriter or working Fresnel lighthouse.

Bikes aren’t just our nostalgic past, though — they’re the future too! But almost every “bike” Lego sells today is a motorbike, and it only recently began including bike lanes.

AMD loves its consoles — but made too many old CPUs and GPUs.

AMD’s Q2 2023 earnings shows the company’s doing worse in PCs than industry slump would suggest — while Intel’s PC chips were down 12 percent, AMD’s client CPUs are down 54 percent. But AMD says its new Ryzen 7000 CPUs are actually up 35 percent sequentially — a glut of older chips is likely to blame.

Gaming rev was only down 4 percent because semi-custom (read: game consoles) actually grew — but gaming graphics (read: GPUs) are down. Overall, the company’s back to a slim profit of $27 million in Q2.

Today I learned a $25 piece lets my Dyson run on DeWalt batteries.

People have been DIYing this for years, but it looks like Amazon just started stocking bespoke tool battery adapters in 2022! Friend of mine says his Dyson V6 one works great and — importantly — has low voltage cutoff when installed. (DeWalt famously puts protection in the tool, not the battery.)

Just bought one. If I brick a battery, I’ll let you know!

The Twitter sign has left the building — and no, I’m not talking about the X.

At around 10AM PT, Getty Images’ Justin Sullivan captured this photo showing the blue bird had gone. You could still make out an outline — but by 12:20PM PT, workers had all but cleaned that up. The far side of the Twitter sign is equally bare, according to this video.

Musk’s flashy rooftop X may be no more, but the symbol will probably reappear on this sign soon.

Zelda engineers discover new form of quantum entanglement, achieve loyal wingman drones.

Fresh off inventing the railjet, r/HyruleEngineering has now discovered “stake nudging” — a new technique that lets you create invisible connections between objects.

In this case, it let u/divlogue create flying laser drones akin to the funnels you’ll find in Japanese mecha anime and video games like Gradius. (Real-world loyal wingman drones have been attempted, too.)

Lenovo’s prepping a Steam Deck / ROG Ally competitor.

That’s all we know, save it may use the same AMD Phoenix chips as Asus’ ROG Ally. The report speculates it’ll be a Windows handheld because it has a Ryzen chip, but that doesn’t follow — the Linux-based Steam Deck shipped with Ryzen guts.

It also speculates the ROG Ally’s Z1 Extreme chip might have an advantage over AMD Phoenix. But since Z1 Extreme is a Phoenix, I’d take that with a grain of salt.
