    More warning signs for Intel.

Two credit agencies have downgraded Intel’s credit rating to “BBB,” two notches above junk status. (Once companies reach “BB,” they’re no longer considered “safe” investments.) One noted Intel needs “stronger end markets and successful product ramps” to recover.

But Intel appears to be losing market share to AMD, and a new Reuters report suggests it’s struggling to get its 18A process ready for next-gen Panther Lake. (Intel says it’s confident in Panther Lake, though.)

Meanwhile, Intel is shedding more employees and halting investments where it doesn’t have ready customers.

AMD is selling record numbers of CPUs at Intel’s expense.

AMD just reported its Q2 2025 earnings, and it’s attributing a new quarterly revenue record of $7.7 billion to one particular thing: “record server and PC processor sales.” And while AMD doesn’t mention its flagging competitor Intel, it seems many are turning to Team Red: AMD just crossed 40 percent market share for the first time on the Steam Hardware Survey of PC gamers, and it may have 40 percent server market share soon too.

Data center wasn’t the big driver this quarter, BTW: there was a surge in consumer gaming and client chips.

Bambu now lets you crowdfund 3D printed products, including a trap-filled mechanical board game.

Bambu’s 3D printers started on Kickstarter; now, the company’s own MakerWorld Crowdfunding has 11 different 3D prints you can back, including DIY pinball tables, steampunk disc blasters, and this epic board game. Be warned you’re paying for the promise of 3D files, not final products. And you can’t just submit your own designs yet; that’s invitation only for now.

ThinkPad designer dishes on what happened to your favorite niche laptop features.

Remember when ThinkPads had seven rows of keys, sandpaper TrackPoint nubs, ThinkLights, and keyboards that transformed to become wider when you opened their hinge? The Register’s Avram Pilch caught up with David W. Hill, who ran ThinkPad design from 1995 to 2017, about all of them — and the attempts to bring some back!

The HoverAir Aqua is a drone that floats on water.

The HoverAir X1 is one of the best drones for people who don’t like drones, we found last year: an affordable, portable, and durable self-flying selfie camera. Now, the company’s teasing a new model that floats on water (can it land and take off, though?) with a new compact controller.

Hopefully it’ll be simpler and cheaper than the company’s too-ambitious X1 Pro and ProMax drones, whose modular controllers have never worked right for me.

An orange-yellow tubular drone with four propellers inside the tubish external ring of a frame and a built-in screen up top.

Google just got a minimum one-week emergency stay before it has to change Android app store policy.

    Here’s the entire court filing:

Google LLC (“Google”) has filed an emergency motion for an administrative stay of the district court’s permanent injunction, entered October 7, 2024, pending Google’s forthcoming motion to stay the injunction pending further appellate proceedings. Google’s emergency motion (Dkt. Entry No. 201) is granted. Google should file its motion to stay the injunction pending further appellate proceedings no later than August 8, 2025.

Google previously had two weeks to begin complying. Now it has three weeks, or longer — depends whether these judges think the full Ninth Circuit or Supreme Court will want to weigh in on the permanent injunction against Google.

The next BioShock game’s story reportedly isn’t up to snuff, so it (and its leaders) are getting overhauled.

2K isn’t denying Jason Schreier’s story: “We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one,” the publisher tells him.

Fujifilm just hiked camera prices by hundreds of dollars and Canon may be next.

Hope you weren’t banking on a particular price for your next camera, because Trump’s new-and-improved tariffs have other plans. My former colleague Chris Welch reports the majority of Fujifilm cameras now cost more, and Canon has signaled higher prices too; Sigma has agreed to absorb the extra 5 percent tariffs that Trump just added to Japan.

Fuji prices could go higher still: PetaPixel says they’re based on 10 percent Japan tariffs, not the new 15 percent. Moment has an updated Fujifilm price list.
