Is the MLB’s Vision Pro app ready for the big leagues?

Jason Snell of Six Colors details his experience with the MLB’s visionOS app now that the season is underway. Of the Gameday feature that puts a 3D-animated baseball field in your space during a game, he writes:

I couldn’t find support for Gameday when I first used the app, though later when playing back an archived stream, I did find Gameday available—from within the video playback, so you can’t use it for a game you’re not watching on the app. And it’s immersive, so you can’t put it up and then do something else, which is also probably a mistake.

Ah, the early days of the Vision Pro’s app ecosystem.

Love the crunchy distortion on that mouse, bro.

Guy Dupont’s Hidden Agenda pedal takes your mouse and keyboard and reimagines guitar effects for them. For example, “distortion” makes your mouse jitter all around when you move it. Turn the knob up to increase the effect, or go the other way to smooth your mouse’s motion instead.

I’m enamored by its gadgety gadgetness, but I suspect it may actually have some real accessibility benefits.

Scientists reveal the magnetic structure of black holes with new images.

Scientists for the Event Horizon Telescope collaboration say the magnetic structure of the Milky Way’s central Sagittarius A* black hole is “strikingly similar” to the bigger singularity in the middle of the galaxy M87, writes Phys.org.

They discovered this by comparing polarized images of the two. One researcher told Phys.org that this discovery could mean “this structure is common to all black holes.”

The Vision Pro is getting some new Apple Arcade games.

Alto’s Odyssey: The Lost City, Gibbon: Beyond the Trees, and Spire Blast will each get Vision Pro “spatial” apps tomorrow, Apple shared in a release emailed to The Verge.

Also, rhythm game Synth Ridersaka the only game I’ve been coming back to besides bullet hell shooter Void-X — has been updated with Game Center leaderboards and a pass-the-headset Party Mode.

Here’s one for all the iconheads out there.

I’m not sure if this great collection hosted by product engineer Alex Meub is all of the Windows 98 icons, but it sure has all the ones I remember.

Each one is downloadable, too. Might as well use them to replace your Windows or Mac icons. Or, if you’re a real sicko, you could swap them on Android or iOS.

Time to make your icons good again.

    Why the giant face?

This clip from the next X-Men ‘97 episode looks truly deranged. From the big Miyazaki-style face in the elevator to flying demons, this is shaping up to be one of the weirdest episodes of X-Men yet.

The full episode should be up on Disney Plus tomorrow.

Treat yourself to the Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door remake’s intro.

Seeing its remade opening video warms my heart. This game is part of an absolute slew of recent classic Nintendo remakes sending the Switch off in glorious fashion.

If you’ve never played this game, you’re in for a treat when it releases on May 23rd. The Thousand-Year Door is a beautiful, hilarious, and very fun RPG.
