CHIPS Act employees had to ‘justify their intellect’ before being let go.

The Department of Commerce laid off 40 people from the office overseeing CHIPS grants after senior department official Michael Grimes held “brief interviews” with employees, reports The New York Times.

...Mr. Grimes asked employees to justify their intellect by providing test results from the SAT or an IQ test, said four people familiar with the evaluations. Some were asked to do math problems, like calculate the value of four to the fourth power or long division.

Apple may require its HomeKit architecture upgrade soon.

That’s according to 9to5Mac, which spotted code in the latest iOS 18.4 developer beta suggesting the Home app is dropping support for the older version.

The updated HomeKit, which Apple rolled out in 2023, is required if you want to use Matter devices. If you’re not sure how to upgrade, check out our handy guide for doing so.

    Zuck has some new shades.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a picture to WhatsApp that shows him wearing what he says are “the new limited edition Ray-Ban Meta x Coperni frames last night.” They’re coming tomorrow, he adds. Meta teased last week that “an exciting collaboration” is coming soon, and I suppose these are them.

It’s hard to tell if they’re translucent from this picture of Zuckerberg, but the earlier tease implied that they are, like Meta’s previous limited edition shades.

Update: According to a Meta blog that just went up, they’ll be available at 1AM PT / 4AM ET for $549. And yes, they’re translucent. Pictures added below.

Meta’s next Ray-Bans are apparently a collaboration with Coperni.
