Nintendo just wrapped part two of its double feature this week.
On Tuesday, the company hosted a showcase all about the Legend of Zelda franchise, including footage and a November 5th release date for the Switch 2 Ocarina of Time remake. On Wednesday, the company aired a new Nintendo Direct, which spotlighted Switch 2 games mostly “launching this winter” over the course of about 45 minutes.
The show wasn’t a blockbuster one, but it had a few notable announcements. A new 2D Metroid game, Metroid Ravenous, launches in January. The Kirby franchise is getting a new game, Kirby and the World Beyond, sometime in spring 2027. A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4 releases in November. And Persona 6 will be coming to the Switch 2, though that game still doesn’t have a release date.
This year’s other big releases include Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on September 17th and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort on October 22nd. For 2027, major new entries in the Pokémon and Xenoblade franchises are already on the calendar, but they don’t have specific dates yet.

- A whole new world.
The Direct ended with the reveal of an all-new Kirby game that launches in 2027, in which the adorable pink ball seems to discover that the world is much larger than he realizes. He also gets a pretty big sword this time around.
The Switch 2 is getting a 2D Metroid called Ravenous
Nintendo just announced a new 2D entry in the Metroid series for the Switch 2, titled Metroid Ravenous. It’s launching on January 28th, 2027.
The new game looks like an evolution of Metroid Dread. While it’s still a 2D game, it features 3D graphics, lots of cinematic action shots, parrying enemies, and Samus rolling around in Morph Ball form. What’s new for this game is that Samus also appears to somehow absorb energy from enemies to survive — Nintendo’s marketing copy for the game uses the line “eat or be eaten.” There are also many fearsome-looking foes, including some giant creatures and a group of futuristic, caped fighters that attack Samus with blades and spinning metal hats.

Danganronpa 2x2 comes to Switch and Switch 2 on January 14th, 2027. It includes the original story from Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair as well as a new story in what’s called “Slayhem” mode. I cannot wait to find out what Slayhem entails.
- Persona 6 is coming to the Switch 2.
We still know basically nothing about the game, but we do know it’ll be on Nintendo’s handheld console at some point.
- Mario Kart World gets a new update later today.
The free update adds 10 courses based on ones from the original Super Mario Kart, including Choco Island 1, Vanilla Lake 1, and Ghost Valley 1. There are also two new routes coming to Knockout Tour.
- The spirit of Wii Sports lives on.
Nintendo’s next sports title hits the Switch 2 in October, and it continues to look like a blast. The new trailer also details some surprisingly deep Mii customization.
- Return to Resident Evil remakes.
Resident Evil 2: Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4: Gold Edition are all coming to Switch 2 on October 16th. And don’t forget that the new Resident Evil movie is out next week.
- Pikmin 4 is getting a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.
The upgraded version of the game lets you talk to the dog-like Oatchi character with voice commands and has a new a Dandori Academy mode to play extra challenges (72 will be released over time). It launches on November 12th.
- A true gentleman leaves no puzzle unsolved.
The latest Professor Layton brings a steampunk vibe, and it boasts “the biggest collection of puzzles in series history.” It launches on the Switch 2 on December 10th.
- New pokémon are coming to Pokopia.
We knew that Part 2 of the Pokopia DLC would feature wearable accessories and add Snubbull, but now we’ve seen more of the new pokémon that will be added, including Skitty, Braixen, and Doduo. Skitty in particular is the perfect candidate for playing dress-up.
- Star Fox’s adventures.
If you ever wondered what Fox McCloud gets up to outside of his ship, well, that’s what the GameCube classic Star Fox Adventures is for. The game is coming to the Switch 2 for NSO subscribers later today, while a free update is also coming to the new Star Fox remake later this month.
- More Hyrule Warriors.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity — Definitive Edition is launching on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 25th, 2027. It includes improved frame rates and more enemies onscreen at a time as well as a new harder difficulty mode.
- Monster Hunter Wilds launches on Switch 2 in December.
December 4th, 2026, to be specific. The upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance expansion will also come to Switch 2 sometime in 2027.
- It’s almost Nintendo time.
The September 2026 Nintendo Direct kicks off at 10AM ET, and you can watch it on YouTube. The show is set to last about 45 minutes, and after, Nintendo is also hosting a Treehouse Live stream to show off some games from the Direct in more detail.
Nintendo isn’t scared of GTA VI
Image: NintendoThere’s never really been a game like Grand Theft Auto VI before, one that has completely altered the lineup of games around it. Everyone, it seems, is scared of going up against Grand Theft Auto VI. Everyone, that is, except for Nintendo.
The company held a 30-minute showcase this morning focused entirely on its Legend of Zelda franchise, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. We got a title for the live-action movie, a series of orchestral concerts, and a very glittery special edition of the Switch 2. But most of the runtime was dedicated to the upcoming Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time. There was a new trailer and a lengthy gameplay video that showed how Nintendo is approaching this remake, which includes more realistic graphics and new features like a free camera. But perhaps the most notable detail is when the game launches: November 5th.
