The critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV is coming to the Switch 2.

Square Enix just announced a bunch of news for its MMO, including an expansion called Evercold, an Evangelion crossover, and a port for Nintendo’s new console in August. The Switch 2 version will get a month-long (free) early access period, though it sounds like it will have its own separate subscription.

Baldur’s Gate 3 books are coming soon.

The main highlight is a prequel novel, Baldur’s Gate 3: Astarion, by T. Kingfisher, coming September 29th, plus a notebook, coloring book, and a cookbook, which are all coming out this year.

Publisher Random House Worlds says it plans for the initiative to continue with more titles next year.

Video game movies have become a battlefield.

If we’re getting a Call of Duty movie, I guess it only makes sense that we get a Battlefield one as well. According to the Hollywood Reporter, EA’s shooter series is being adapted into a film with longtime Mission Impossible director Chrisopher McQuarrie at the helm, and Michael B. Jordan attached as star.

“I want to make the right decision, not the fastest decision.”

That’s new Xbox boss Asha Sharma to Game File’s Stephen Totilo, when asked if there is a timeline for making a decision about how Xbox might change its approach to exclusivity.

Totilo interviewed Sharma and chief content officer Matt Booty following their “We Are Xbox” memo published on Thursday.

This is Microsoft’s new Xbox logo.

Microsoft has scrapped Microsoft Gaming in favor of Xbox today, and it’s also starting to roll out a new Xbox logo. The new logo started appearing on Microsoft’s campus this week, just in time for Xbox CEO Asha Sharma’s all-hands meeting earlier today. The new Xbox logo has a more glassy look, and I understand Microsoft has also been using this new design for some of its internal Project Helix materials.

Somehow Yoshi got even more adorable.

There’s just something impossibly charming about the storybook art style of the upcoming Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, but if you’re curious how the Switch 2 game actually plays, Nintendo just dropped a six-minute-long overview trailer. The only thing missing is Donald Glover.

We found Microsoft’s amicus brief about the Xbox mobile game store.

Microsoft’s new gaming boss said the “idea” isn’t dead, pointing onlookers to a legal brief it filed in a case. That case is Epic v. Google, and the brief is an argument that Judge Donato should stay the course and force Google to carry stores like Microsoft’s. There, Microsoft claims it’s put “significant efforts” behind “new consumer offerings” for Android.

Razer says its new Atlas Pro is the world’s thinnest glass mouse mat.

The original Atlas is 5mm thick, but the $129.99 Atlas Pro slims that down to just 1.9mm with a 1.1 mm sheet of tempered glass atop a 0.8 mm anti-slip base. The surface of the mat features a micro-etched texture, ensuring it’s compatible with optical sensors, while the edges of the glass have been CNC-milled to create a comfortable rounded finish.

Valve’s Steam Controller looks imminent.

Valve originally promised an early 2026 launch for its Steam Controller, and it now looks like a price and release date could be imminent. A Steam Controller unboxing video has been spotted in SteamDB, which usually only happens when an announcement is about to happen.

My Arcade’s new wireless gamepad is packed with retro gaming controls.

It’s got a D-pad, dial, trackball, and number pad making it ideal for playing classic games like Missile Command, Codebreaker, and Breakout. But unfortunately, My Arcade’s new $65 wireless gamepad is only compatible with the handheld Atari Gamestation Go and Gamestation Mega mini arcade cabinet.

Xbox mode is nearly here for all PCs.

Microsoft just added its Xbox mode to the Release Preview version of Windows 11. That means the Xbox mode, that adds a full-screen interface to the Xbox PC app, is just days away from being available on all PCs. Microsoft did promise last month that it would roll out the Xbox mode to all PCs in April, and it looks like it’s rolling out on time.

Someone recreated Nintendo’s exceptionally rare first arcade game.

Resurrecting 1974’s Wild Gunman isn’t a matter of extracting a ROM and firing up an emulator. The light gun game used two projectors and live-action footage spread across multiple film reels. Callan Brown managed to get his hands on them, scan them, and built a replica of the original cabinet.

Slay the Spire II’s roadmap teases a new character.

And a whole lot more, including alternate versions of Acts 2 and 3, Steam Workshop support, and “experimental game modes.” The game got its first major update for all players on Thursday.

The game is a big hit, selling three million copies a week after its March launch, and I can tell you from personal experience that it’s a blast with a friend.

Steam running natively on a Nintendo Switch.

In December, we explained how Valve architected a push for Windows games on Arm — the Steam Frame is just the tip of the iceberg. Now, Valve’s released a public beta of Steam for Arm+Linux (download link) — and one person’s already got it running on a rooted Switch! Can’t play games yet, though.

The developer of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is laying off more workers.

Iron Galaxy Studios, which has also helped support and port dozens of games, including BioShock Infinite, Diablo III, and The Last of Us Part I, is cutting around 90 employees, according to Kotaku.

The layoffs follow last year’s job cuts at Iron Galaxy Studios, and come as the developer works to “adapt to the climate of the video game industry,” according to a post on LinkedIn.

AYN’s dual-screen gaming handheld is getting a price increase due to the memory crisis.

With the next batch of pre-orders, the Thor Max model with 1TB of storage is getting a $100 price hike to $549, according to a Discord announcement.

AYN is also switching from UFS 4.0 storage to the slower UFS 3.1 storage starting with the next pre-orders of the Thor and the AYN Odin 3 because “UFS 4.0 is no longer available at a sustainable level.”

If you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics statement.

A screenshot of an announcement from the AYN Discord. It reads: Hi everyone, We’d like to share a quick update regarding our current production and upcoming plans. Thor is currently in the process of fulfilling shipments from previous batches, and we will soon be opening the next round of pre-orders - Thor Batch 6 and Odin 3 Batch 7. Following the recent surge in DRAM pricing, we are now facing a difficult situation with UFS storage. Due to supply shortages and significant cost increases, UFS 4.0 is no longer available at a sustainable level. As a result, Thor and Odin 3 will transition to UFS 3.1 moving forward (From new preorder Thor Batch 6 and Odin 3 Batch 7). We will be doing our best to maintain the existing pricing for Thor Base and Pro models despite these challenges. However, the cost increase for 1TB UFS has been substantial, and we unfortunately have to adjust the price of the Thor Max (16GB + 1TB) to $549. On a more positive note, we are introducing a new configuration: a 16GB RAM model paired with 512GB storage, priced at $469. We truly appreciate your understanding and continued support as we navigate these supply chain changes. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. AYN Team (edited)

Playdate Catalog games can’t use generative AI for “art, audio, music, text, or dialog.”

Panic detailed the changes in a policy that went into effect this month. For now, however, Panic will allow Catalog titles that “have used AI assistance in the coding process,” but those games will be flagged to note that.

For its own games, Panic cofounder Cabel Sasser recently told The Verge that it does not “have any interest in generative AI-created products.”

Roblox will pay $10 million to Nevada as part of a settlement.

The company, which is the subject of multiple state lawsuits over alleged child safety issues, will also be required to implement a “default content mode” for users who haven’t had their age verified — which is basically what Roblox announced on Monday.

The settlement was reached after Nevada approached the company ahead of a lawsuit, Reuters reports.

Turtle Beach’s new flagship gaming headset seems a lot like that other one.

Remember the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless that launched in 2022? It has swappable batteries, ANC, a wireless hub for transmitting audio from multiple sources, simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth audio — the works. So does the new Stealth Pro II that’s up for preorder now. Notably, it also supports Hi-Res Audio over wireless, an impressive feat at $349.99.

The Call of Duty movie has a release date, but it’s far away.

The movie, which Activision and Paramount announced last year, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30th, 2028. It’s set to be written, directed, and produced by Peter Berg, with Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan also onboard to write and produce.
