The second season’s first episode debuts on Sunday on HBO and Max. Season 2 is only 7 episodes long, a bit shorter than season 1’s 9-episode run, but it won’t cover all of The Last of Us Part II, as co-creator Craig Mazin explained in an interview last year.
“We feel like it’s almost assuredly going to be the case that — as long as people keep watching and we can keep making more television — Season 3 will be significantly larger,” Mazin said to Deadline. “And indeed, the story may require Season 4.”
My colleague Andrew Webster reviewed season 2 for The Verge, calling it “a brutal, bloody expansion of the game.”
