An update coming today also introduces an “auto” mode that switches between ChatGPT’s responses and Google Search results based on your query. OpenAI is also working on Windows support and a mobile version of the browser.

OpenAI kicked off an AI revolution with DALL-E and ChatGPT, making the organization the epicenter of the artificial intelligence boom. Led by CEO Sam Altman, OpenAI became a story unto itself when Altman was briefly fired and then brought back after pressure from staff and Microsoft, an investor and close partner.

OpenAI’s CFO said the other day that the company’s aim for the year is “practical adoption,” but one commenter wonders if the ChatGPT company might have something more straightforward in mind.

OpenAI announced it’s rolling out a new paid tier in the US, ChatGPT Go, just as it confirms that ads are coming “soon” — including to paid Go users. As sales pitches go, it’s not the best we’ve ever heard.

The ChatGPT creator lost out when Apple and Google announced a deal for Gemini to power Siri, but a source told the Financial Times that the company made “a conscious decision to not become the custom model provider for Apple,” instead prioritizing its own AI hardware with ex-Apple designer Jony Ive.
The AI industry employee shake-up continues. The three staffers, who had left for ex-OpenAI CTO Mira Murati’s own AI startup, are now back at OpenAI. ChatGPT for Healthcare is already being used by healthcare organizations like Boston Children’s Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.

But it’s ‘not intended for diagnosis or treatment.’
Jerry Tworek, the company’s VP of research, wrote in an internal memo and shared on X that he was “leaving to try and explore types of research that are hard to do at OpenAI.”

While trying to find vacation info, the chatbot told a WSJ reporter that “Tripadvisor is being a little useless.” They tested several chatbot AI apps, and apparently, Instacart is one of the better ones -- having your former CEO become OpenAI’s “CEO of Applications” must have helped.
Other apps were slow, buggy, and complicated, and, at this stage, still slower than traditional iPhone apps.

In response to concerns about how teens are interacting with ChatGPT, OpenAI is adding four new points to its Model Spec, which defines how the chatbot should behave:
- Put teen safety first, even when it may conflict with other goals
- Promote real-world support by encouraging offline relationships and trusted resources
- Treat teens like teens, neither condescending to them nor treating them as adults
- Be transparent by setting clear expectations

Details are uncertain but reports suggest talks are definitely underway. It could see OpenAI using Amazon’s Trainium chips and selling an enterprise version of ChatGPT. OpenAI inked a $38 billion AI training deal with AWS last month.
Amazon happens to be a major investor in OpenAI’s rival Anthropic.
