PlayStation

For more than 25 years, Sony’s PlayStation has been synonymous with gaming. It’s given players experiences like God of War, The Last of Us, and Final Fantasy VII alongside technological innovations from CD-ROMs all the way up to 4K, VR, and cloud gaming. There have even been attempts at portable gaming with the PSP and Vita. Across multiple generations the company has been a pioneer, starting with the original PlayStation and continuing with the PS5.

Sony rumor says it will reduce PS5 Slim Digital Edition storage space.

Sony bumped the PS5’s storage from 825GB to 1TB when it introduced the new Slim model. But gaming bargain hunter billbil-kun has info about a revised discless edition spotted in Europe, that would see its SSD drop back to 825, while the disc version remains at 1TB -- is that better than raising the price again?

Now that’s a PlayStation fidget spinner.

This model is fan art created by myself, it is not endorsed by, sponsored by or affiliated with Sony or PlayStation,” writes Graham Watson on his Bambu crowdfunding campaign. (Here’s more about those.) Looks awesome; I hope Sony’ll give it the nod or even a little help!

Sony sells its 80 millionth PS5.

Its 80.3 millionth, to be exact, half the lifetime sales of the PS2, the best-selling console of all time, and closing on the 87.4 million PS3 sales. Sony sold 2.5 million consoles over April-June, about the same as last year, but doubled its gaming profit thanks to game sales and subscriptions.

It lowered its forecast for the tariff hit, but that likely didn’t factor in Trump’s new threat of a 100 percent rate on chips.

Genshin Impact is too demanding for the PS4.

Developer HoYoverse is ending support for the game, which will leave the PlayStation store next month and stop working entirely next April. The devs blamed “limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size.”

Fortunately, Genshin Impact will remain playable on more powerful hardware like the PS5 and, um, your phone.

When’s Marvel? Pretty soon.

Also at EVO 2025, will be a developer panel discussing gameplay and development, if I know anything about EVO, there will likely be an exhibition showcase for the game as well. You can catch all the new info on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls when EVO 2025 starts on August 1st.

Don’t expect PS6 before 2027 at the earliest.

While the PS5 Pro may get crisper graphics in 2026, PlayStation architect Mark Cerny says his next console won’t come that quick. “My time-frame is multi-year here,” he told Tom’s Guide. Both Sony’s lawyers and Microsoft’s planners once suggested next-gen consoles would arrive 2028.

Cerny also says he’s helping build AMD’s next-gen GPUs. “Big chunks of RDNA 5, or whatever AMD ends up calling it, are coming out of engineering I am doing on the project,” he said, referring to Project Amethyst.

DualSense controllers are getting improved pairing.

Apple, at WWDC: “This year, the frameworks that power input across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro are getting major upgrades, with easier pairing for PlayStation DualSense controllers across all of your devices.”

PlayStation, on X: “Want to pair your DualSense controller to multiple devices at once?
An update planned for later this year enhances pairing functionality.”

Seems useful, whenever this rolls out.
