For more than 25 years, Sony’s PlayStation has been synonymous with gaming. It’s given players experiences like God of War, The Last of Us, and Final Fantasy VII alongside technological innovations from CD-ROMs all the way up to 4K, VR, and cloud gaming. There have even been attempts at portable gaming with the PSP and Vita. Across multiple generations the company has been a pioneer, starting with the original PlayStation and continuing with the PS5.

The Bot is back.

I can’t get enough Astro Bot which is a very good thing because PlayStation keeps giving him to us. During today’s summer State of Play, the good folks at Team Asobi announced they are releasing a new slate of Astro Bot levels.

There will be five new levels to challenge and a host of new bots to find including Atsu from Ghosts of Yotei. The developers say there will be even more bots to find but they’re being kept secret for now. The new levels launch July 10th.

Get over here!

As part of PlayStation’s Summer State of Play presentation, Digital Eclipse have a new documentary game project to share. The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection is the most komprehensive kollection of Mortal Kombat games to date. Play the klassic titles including MK 1, 2, and 3, their arcade, console, and even handheld editions. And because it’s Digital Eclipse, expect a ton of behind the scenes archival footage from the game’s earliest days in development.

Virtual thievery.

The Thief series is coming to VR with a new game called Legacy of Shadow. It looks to be exactly what it sounds like: an attempt to bring the stealth gameplay into a new level of immersion. It’s launching later this year on PSVR 2

F is for freaky.

That’s certainly the vibe I’m getting from the gameplay of Silent Hill F, which looks even creepier than the recent remake of Silent Hill 2. It’s launching on September 25th.

Digimon returns with another story in October.

It’s been years since we saw an entry in Digimon’s Story series, and now it’s returning with Digimon Story Time Stranger on October 3rd, 2025. The game’s description says it tells an “epic story that unravels the mystery of the world’s collapse” as you carry out turn-based battles with a variety of Digimon collected throughout the game.

Take some Baby Steps this fall.

The latest infuriating game from Bennett Foddy and friends now has a release date: September 8th. I played the game earlier this year, so you can read all about what the open-world exploration experience is like below.

More blood stains.

Koji Igarashi’s Castlevania-like gothic action series is getting a new sequel. It’s called The Scarlet Engagement and is “set in a haunting world years before” the original Bloodstained. It’s due out in 2026.

The dad games will continue until morale improves.

PlayStation’s summer State of Play is going on right now and Capcom showed us a bit more of Pragmata, a game that looks like the developers crossed one of the Great America Dad Games like Bioshock Infinite or God of War with the slick hyper-realistic visuals of Stellar Blade. Not much of the gameplay was shown but we were given a 2026 launch window and introduced to our Elizabeth/Atreus analogue, an adorable little robot child named Diana.

Romeo must die.

At least I assume that’s what will happen in this ultra-violent action game Romeo is a Deadman. It looks wild and confusing, but what else would you expect from Suda51 and Grasshopper Manufacture. It launches in 2026.

Lumines rises.

The classic puzzler from Tetsuya Mizuguchi is coming back with Lumines Arise, and the new version looks a whole lot like Tetris Effect. No word on a release date, but it will have VR support.

Elden Ring Nightreign’s ‘Let Me Solo Her’ patch is live.

Nightreign’s been out for a little less than a week and it already has its first balance patch. Announced last week, FromSoftware is deploying an update that’ll give players a much easier time tackling the game’s challenges solo.

In addition to a number of bug fixes and general balance updates, solo players will now earn more runes overall and will automatically revive once during night boss fights.

Elden Ring Nightreign may be co-op, but I’m having a blast solo

It’s dangerous to go alone, but do it anyway.

The Last of Us season two finale pulled in 3.7 million viewers.

As Deadline notes, the cross-platform viewer number that (HBO) Max just released for last night’s finale is down from the season premiere’s 5.3 million, but the company expects that “The audience will grow significantly due to low viewing levels over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.” According to the press release, the show’s global audience now numbers more than 90 million.

If you’ve seen the finale, what do you think about where the show is headed now?

Senua’s Saga comes to PS5.

With several exclusives including Indiana Jones, Forza Horizon 5, Pentiment, and more launching on PS5 and Nintendo Switch, the Xbox cross-platform floodgates have opened in earnest and there’s another game coming. This time it’s Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 arriving on PS5 this summer. For the PS5 version of Ninja Theory’s immersive supernatural viking thriller, the developers are offering an enhanced edition of the game with new features that will also come to Xbox and PC as an update.

Jade Raymond has left PlayStation.

Bloomberg has the story. Raymond, also a former Google Stadia exec, had founded and led the PlayStation-owned Haven Studios, which has been working on a multiplayer heist game called Fairgames.

According to Bloomberg’s report, Fairgames had been scheduled for a fall 2025 release, but that has been pushed to spring 2026.

Virtua Fighter 5 comes to the Switch 2.

During the Virtua Fighter spring 2025 direct, Sega has announced that Virtua Fighter 5: R.E.V.O., released on Steam earlier this year, will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

R.E.V.O. is actually a port of 2021’s Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown with the extra bells and whistles of 4k resolution and other goodies including the fighting gamer’s favorite feature: rollback netcode. The console edition of Virtua Fighter 5: R.E.V.O. doesn’t yet have a release date yet but hopefully we’ll get one soon.

A DualSense for the beach.

Sony’s latest limited edition PS5 controller takes its design from Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, with an intentionally / annoyingly off-center Drawbridge logo at its heart. Kojima Productions helped with the design apparently, and doesn’t he look proud? Preorders open on May 22nd, ahead of the game’s launch on June 26th.

Gameplay 4 Borderlands.

Sony and Gearbox just aired a 20-minute deep dive on what it’s like to actually play Borderlands 4. It looks like a Borderlands game, but that’s not a bad thing; when Borderlands works, the loop of finding newer and flashier guns is excellent, and it seems like 4 will have some nice improvements to the formula.

The PlayStation Blog has a big post about the game, too. It’s launching on September 12th.
