Attack of the clones.

Just as The Acolyte carves out a new space for Star Wars, the just-launched free-to-play shooter Hunters is going to plenty of familiar places. I’m not sure the world can handle another multiplayer arena shooter, but hey, this one does have a Wookie named Grozz.

This is a troll, right? Right?

Actually, no! io9’s ever-reliable James Whitbrook found legit reasons to love the Star Wars movie we don’t talk about. A slideshow that delivers:

In a Lego mirror, darkly.

In its first teaser, the new LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy (on Disney Plus September 13th) goes where no Star Wars production has gone before by entering Darth Jar Jar into the canon.

Just kidding, it’s not canon. But it does look like a fun DC Elseworlds or Marvel’s What If...? kind of approach, which I’d like more of (no multiverse though, please).

While we’re on the subject of Star Wars shows...

Here’s your reminder that Disney’s latest animated anthology series, Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, started streaming today.

The six-episode miniseries may not quite be enough to tide everyone over until The Acolyte’s June 4th release, though — the longest episode clocks in at just 19 minutes.

Autodesk is hosting a Star Wars droid design contest.

The contest (rules here) runs from May 4th through June 4th. Autodesk provides certain assets like the Star Wars alphabet and symbols, as well as 30 day free trials of Autodesk software.

Prizes include Autodesk fabricating the winning overall droid and a paid trip for the winning designer (with lodging and a plus one!) to San Francisco to tour Industrial Light and Magic Studios.

Apple is getting the jump on Star Wars Day with a few Mandalorians.

Star Wars Day doesn’t technically kick off until May 4th, but Apple is celebrating the event a bit early with a precision finding-focused iPhone 15 ad spot starring a squad of (cosplayer) Mandalorians.

May the Fortnite be with you.

Welp, since Star Wars Day falls on a Saturday, it makes sense that Fortnite would finally release it’s long-teased Star Wars collaboration today. Star Wars is expanding across the entire Fortnite ecosystem. There are new skins in Battle Royale, new builds in LEGO Fortnite, special decals to unlock in Rocket Racing, and a Mos Eisley cantina stage in Fortnite Festival.

*Jar Jar Binks voice* “How wude.”

It’s somehow been 25 years since The Phantom Menace kicked off the Star Wars prequel era, and the film is coming back to theaters for a limited time starting on May 3rd (tickets are on sale now). Those who attend can also get a new glimpse at The Acolyte, along with hopefully a new appreciation for Jar Jar.

June the 4th be with you.

Live-action Star Wars show The Acolyte will bring the High Republic era of the franchise to TV for the first time on June 4th.

StarWars.com announced the show’s premiere date with this less-than-subtle bloody lightsaber poster, reading “In an age of light a darkness rises.” Spoooooooky. Also, the site says to expect the series’ official teaser trailer tomorrow.

A picture of a concrete floor with a lightsaber laying on it, a streak of what looks like blood rising from it.
Seems... dark.

Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte gets a narrowed-down release window.

The show, originally pitched by showrunner Leslye Headland as “Frozen meets Kill Bill,” will be out in Summer 2024, according to Collider. Disney had previously only confirmed it as coming this year.

Our best look yet at Disney’s “real” Star Wars lightsaber.

Former TechCrunch EIC Matthew Panzarino got to touch it — something we’d heard was beyond the reach of mere mortals who don’t work for Disney Parks.

It looks just as mindblowing as ever. I am so damn jealous. Here’s how the lightsaber likely works.

Here’s the trailer for Star Wars: The Bad Batch’s third and final season.

Disney announced the Clone Wars spinoff’s renewal during its Celebration event last spring, and now fans can actually see it before it premieres on Disney Plus with three episodes starting February 21st.

Emperor Palpatine, Dr. Royce Hemlock, and Asajj Ventress make an appearance in this preview of the series that follows the vagabonding Clone Force 99’s movements after refusing to obey Order 66.

Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game is apparently coming out “late this year.”

A new Disney Parks blog post shared that release window for Star Wars Outlaws, as reported by IGN. Ubisoft had already announced that the game would be released in 2024.

Update January 2nd, 3:51PM ET: Actually, scratch that release window. The Disney blog post now just says that the game is set to come out in “2024,” and Ubisoft told Kotaku that the timing in that post was incorrect. Guess we’ll have to wait and see about more specific details.

Ever wanted to read a video game’s full orchestral score?

Then check out the full score for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which was shared online for free by Stephen Barton, one of the composers on the game. This rules! More developers should do this.

These little droids could cause a lot of trouble.

Disney recently showed off bipedal droids that look exactly like something you’d see in a Star Wars movie, and now Disney’s Imagineers are testing the droids at Disneyland, as reported by Disneyland News Today. I love them!!

Star Wars jizz is now called jatz.

In a galaxy far, far, away, jazz doesn’t exist. Instead, when you want to really blow on that horn you’re jizzing or jatzing. As AVClub recently noted, both words have technically been used to describe the musical stylings of the Star Wars universe over the years, with jizz gaining in popularity for extremely obvious reasons.

But in a recent short story collection based around Return of the Jedi characters, Max Rebo, the blue alien front man for the band that plays at Jabba the Hutt’s palace thinks back to other times he’s performed “jatz standards”. That means jatz is the official Disney-approved name for the music.

Wookiepedia, meanwhile, continues to embrace jizz.

Ahsoka touches down in Fortnite.

As promised when the new season launched, Star Wars heroine Ahsoka is now available in Fortnite (so long as you purchased the current battle pass). She has an adorable pet for back bling and her arrival also means the return of lightsabers to the battle royale island. The timing is also good: the penultimate episode of Ahsoka’s Disney Plus series is streaming tonight.

“Lock S-foils in attack position.”

Imagine owning Red Leader’s X-Wing. Not a starfighter, of course, but the actual miniature built and filmed by ILM for 1977’s Star Wars — with servo-controlled wings that really do swing into attack position.

The hero model was thought lost for 40+ years, but it’s now up for auction starting at $400K. It’s joined by “the most complete and best condition” Stormtrooper armor, an original Wah Chang Star Trek TOS tricorder, “one of only two hero Type-2 Phasers known to exist,” and Starfleet uniforms worn by Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Scotty, and more.
