iFixit is best known for its detailed gadget teardowns and toolkits designed to help you crack open and troubleshoot your own electronics. Today it announced a new toolkit that’s instead tailored to household repairs or DIY projects like fixing appliances or assembling flat-packed furniture. iFixit describes its $34.95 Megalodon Driver Kit as a “compact kit for the modern home” and it includes a new screwdriver the company designed to be a better alternative to traditional ratcheting drivers.

The star of the show is the Megalodon driver featuring a bright blue end cap iFixit calls the Swivel Grip Cap. The screwdriver is able to spin freely while you hold the cap in place to steady it, allowing you to quickly remove screws. When you need more power for tightening screws or other fasteners, pushing down on the Swivel Grip Cap locks it in place, allowing you to apply more torque and force to the driver with your hand. As iFixit points out, the Megalodon can be used as either a swivel driver or a static driver as needed, without having to remember which way you need to adjust a ratchet mechanism.

Alongside the driver the new kit comes with 16 bits with longer 2-inch shanks, making it easier to reach fasteners inside appliances or buried behind panels. iFixit says the included bits were “hand-selected” to work with the “fasteners people actually run into during household repair, furniture assembly, automotive tinkering, and general DIY.” The selection includes an assortment of Phillips, Flathead, Hex, and Square bits, various 6-pointed TR bits, and a quarter-inch socket adapter.

As with iFixit’s other toolkits, the driver and bits all come packed in a foam tray labeled with large white print making it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for. The entire kit comes in a plastic case with a magnetic lid that doubles as a sorting tray for screws and other fasteners to help reduce the risk of them being misplaced in the middle of a project.
