On September 4th, Porsche unveiled its first, all-electric sedan, the Taycan. The event was intricately staged, taking place at three different locations around the globe simultaneously: Canada, China, and Germany.

While you watch, consider these important specs: the top-end version, the Taycan Turbo S, will have a 93kWh battery pack that gets a WLTP-estimated 450 km (~280 miles) of range. The Taycan’s regenerative braking will feed energy back into the battery at rates of up to 265kW, which is very impressive.

Of course, there was no mention of Dieselgate during the 40-plus-minute presentation. Porsche first unveiled the prototype Taycan, then called the Mission E, back in 2015, just a few days before the scandal broke. Since then, Volkswagen, Porsche’s parent company, has made a hard shift into electric vehicles, and the Taycan is the first major push into that new market.
