Tesla ordered to pay $3.2 million over worker’s racist treatment.
A San Francisco jury ordered the automaker to make the payment to Owen Diaz, a Black man who previously worked as an elevator operator at Tesla, after he accused the company of fostering a hostile and racist work environment.
In 2021, a jury ordered Tesla to pay $137 million in damages to Diaz, however, a judge slashed that amount to $15 million last year, calling it “excessive.” The jury settled on a $3.7 million payment after Diaz challenged the judge’s decision.
