How to fake an Apple Store.

Netflix’s new thriller iHostage is based on a real-life hostage situation that took place in Apple’s flagship Amsterdam store in 2002. The Dutch filmmakers weren’t able to film in the actual store, so they built a replica on a soundstage, as spotted by MacRumors.

Not only was the store’s layout and unique architecture recreated, the set also featured a towering screen wrapped around it to accurately simulate the bustling neighborhood visible through the store’s windows.

Lucky for EU, users there can run Windows 11 on their iPads.

That’s because DMA rules let iPad owners access alternative app stores like AltStore Classic. That opens the door to iPadOS apps with just-in-time compilation (JIT) for modern hardware emulation and running things like Windows 11 on an M2 iPad Air, as YouTuber NTDev demonstrates in the video below. MacRumors has some details on how it works.

Meanwhile, the best I can do is JIT-less Windows XP on an M1 iPad Pro.

Here’s what the card looks like.

“I still don’t know if I like being locked into the Apple meat ecosystem.”

The Onion will probably be making up new fake iOS services until the end of time, and I’ll chuckle at every one.

Tim Cook spoke with Howard Lutnick about tariffs.

The Washington Post has a good article about Cook’s recent work with the Trump administration, including a conversation last week with the commerce secretary about how tariffs could impact iPhone prices.

Cook’s playbook for dealing with the first Trump administration is being widely replicated with the second.
