Everyone wants to make a cheaper SM7b.

This is Elgato’s new $99.99 Dynamic XLR mic, the Wave DX, introduced today along with new CPU-powered Wave Link audio effects for EQ and noise removal. One note — adding the Wave XLR interface (also pictured) is an extra $160.

It follows the just-launched $350 Blue Sona XLR, as competition to sell alternatives to Shure’s ubiquitous SM7b increases every day.

That competition, of course, includes Verge senior audio producer Andrew Marino’s recommended pick, Shure’s own MV7.

I’m having a ton of fun playing with Dall-E.

Some quick takeaways now that it’s available:

-Typing a weird description and getting back an accurate result of a cat in a suit is endlessly entertaining.

-A lot of results miss the mark. The incredible illustrations getting shared around are very much the standouts.

-Dall-E benefits a lot from specific style suggestions. A medium or artistic movement is helpful; a specific artist is even better. It’s a valid reason for artists to be concerned.

-Do not accidentally generate variations of a selfie of yourself, it is disturbing.

Adobe XD could disappear if Figma purchase is approved.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Adobe Chief Product Officer Scott Belsky admitted that “XD has become a pretty immaterial product for us” and that its support will be re-evaluated if the Figma acquisition goes through. Belsky thankfully also doubled down on keeping Figma a free-to-use service, even if it does spiritually replace Adobe XD: “We don’t want to fix something that’s working really well.”

Is TikTok going to be the one to get live-streaming right?

Twitter blew it with Periscope. Facebook and Instagram never figured it out. Twitch is great, but only in certain niches. But TikTok seems to be the closest thing going to a truly live social network, as today’s hurricane footage has definitely made clear.
