Mexican president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Tesla will build a plant in Monterrey — about 387 miles away from Tesla’s Austin, TX headquarters, and the company’s first factory south of the US border.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk was reportedly touring three Mexican states in December. It was reported locally that the automaker plans an initial investment of $800 million to $1 billion.
Tesla is expected to announce the details of the new factory at its Investor Day event tomorrow.
