Sandlot vibes.

Backyard Baseball 2001 is getting remastered for Steam, iOS, and Android as Backyard Baseball ‘01, releasing July 8th.

The quarter-century-old sports game was the first of the series to include real MLB players, and 28 of the original 31 pros return in the remaster: including Mike Piazza, Carlos Beltran, Derek Jeter, Mark McGwire, and Jose Canseco. So you can reunite the The Bash Brothers to take on some kids.

After nearly 10 years, Nuclear Throne gets 120fps mode.

Vlambeer co-founder Jan Willem Nijman posted a surprise update on Steam detailing numerous updates in a new Nuclear Throne beta build, including 60fps and 120fps modes, more aspect ratios and a new controls menu. The roguelike shooter was capped at 30fps since its 2015 release.

It’s a nice sign that Vlambeer is really back after unexpectedly shutting down in 2020 and Nijman taking full ownership in 2024.

A humble price increase.

Humble’s best known for curating video game bundles that give proceeds to charities. The Ziff Davis-owned company also sells a subscription called Choice, and I’m sorry if this is the first that you’re hearing of it, because I’m here to tell you that it’s getting more expensive on July 1st, as mentioned by Wario64. It’s increasing from $11.99 per month to $14.99.

Choice offers a new batch of PC games to subscribers every month that you can keep even if you cancel the subscription. It also grants discounts at its Humble Store, including some decent deals on digital Switch 2 games.

It’s time to load up your cart on Steam.

That’s because the Steam summer sale is about to begin. A bunch of games will be discounted starting at 1PM EDT/10AM PDT on June 26th, and the price cuts will last for two weeks, ending at the same time on July 10th.

Valve debuted a trailer for the event with voiceover that sounds like an adlibbed rap about game titles and genres (not that I could do it any better), and some of the games highlighted include Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, Slay The Princess, UFO 50, and more. It should be a good time to load up on games, whether you have a desktop PC, a Steam Deck (or similar handheld), or both.

Happy 25th birthday, Deus Ex!

It was either yesterday or today, and I’m feeling almost nostalgic enough to boot up the original game and sneak around the Statue of Liberty while enjoying one of PC gaming’s all-time great soundtracks.
