“Tesla Roadster is now fully open source.”

“Whatever we have, you now have,” is how CEO Elon Musk described the documents released for the 15-year-old Roadster. While that might be overstating it, the Roadster page includes service, parts, and owners manuals; wiring schematics; and R&D documents on the car’s battery monitor board, vehicle display system, and HVAC controller. A trove of useful information for owners of the 2,450 Roadsters sold.

If you buy a Cybertruck, Tesla says you can’t sell it for a year.

Whatever you think of its windshield wiper, if you are one of the first Cybertruck owners (price still TBA), Tesla intends for you to hang onto your electric truck.

Tesla’s order agreement says “You agree that, you will not sell or otherwise attempt to sell the Vehicle within the first year following your Vehicle’s delivery date,” without getting permission. Breaking the deal could result in your truck being remotely deactivated.

Sorry Tesla, black isn’t slimming on everything.

Tesla’s Chief Designer, Franz von Holzhausen, has been spotted driving around in a matte black Cybertruck according to Inside EVs, suggesting the premium wrap option recently introduced for the Model 3 and Model Y might come to the stainless steel vehicle after its launch on November 30th.

Hopefully the issues with badly fitted panels will be resolved by then — but the vehicle’s enormous blind spot and wiper blade look like they’re here to stay.

Swedish Tesla mechanics are on strike.

The New York Times reported today that Tesla will meet with striking Swedish union IF Metall on Monday to negotiate an end to the strike, which has been ongoing since October 27th.

Last week, the Times says, dockworkers said they would stop unloading Teslas in solidarity. According to OnLabor, IF Metall widened the strike notice to all Swedish shops that repair Teslas — not just those owned by the company — after TM Sweden said Tesla’s policy forbids union agreements “in any country.”

The EV transition trips over its own cord

EV sales are skyrocketing, more than 100 models are on sale, and charging infrastructure is getting better. So why does everything seem so precarious all of a sudden?
