The Apple Watch gets clearance for sleep apnea detection in Canada.

Health Canada published its approval of the feature this week, MacRumors reports. Apple Watch sleep apnea detection was also recently cleared by the Food and Drug Administration.

However, Apple hasn’t added Canada to the list of regions where the feature is available quite yet.

Masimo CEO Joe Kiani has resigned.

The company with the blood oxygen sensing tech causing issues for Apple Watches has announced its CEO — who we just interviewed — is out after investors voted to remove him from the board amid a proxy battle with Politan Capital Management.

In a filing, Masimo said Kiani filed a claim against the company in California state court related to his employment agreement. Michelle Brennan has been appointed interim CEO.

Meta might have more wearable plans down the line.

In a chat with Decoder, CEO Mark Zuckerberg says:

Over time, I think the glasses are also going to be able to be powered by wrist-based wearables or other wearables

So maybe not a smartwatch — which was reportedly nixed — but... something worn on the wrist that ties into smart glasses. Reminds me a bit of how the now-defunct Focals by North had a little smart ring for controls. Interesting, interesting.

Meta’s translucent Meta Ray-Bans now come in a crystal-clear colorway.

Meta already let you see some of its smart glasses circuitry through its orange and blue frames, but now there’s an even clearer version. We already got a few photos of our own in our story about them today.

Is it... time for me to buy these things?

The Wear OS 5 update process didn’t go well for my Pixel Watch 2.

I forced the update after it came out yesterday but rebooted into a mostly blank screen saying “add tile,” which also happened to a few other people who posted about problems on Google’s support forum and Reddit.

After a fastboot reset (video walkthrough here), I was up and running, but you may want to hold off on this one.

watchOS 11 is nowhere near as flashy as Apple Intelligence, but it’s full of neat little moments.

A repairable Pixel Watch could be on the horizon.

At a Climate Week NYC panel, Google policy manager Nicole Azores said the company is considering how to change its watch design, which currently has to be replaced entirely if damaged.

Here’s a snippet from Wired’s reporting which notes that Apple’s and Samsung’s watches are repairable:

Watches and wearables are still fairly nascent, and we are thinking through how to make this repairable,” Azores said on the panel. “We’re thinking about repairability on a broader scale, not just on phones and tablets, and we want to make sure that all of our products eventually become repairable.

Pokémon Sleep comes to your smartwatch.

The app, which measures your sleep with the help of Snorlax and friends, can now help you track your nightly habits with your Apple Watch, Galaxy Watch, Pixel Watch, or Fitbit.

This should allow for more accurate sleep tracking, as the app previously had you place your phone under or beside your pillow to monitor your sleep and snoring.

Meta has a major opportunity to win the AI hardware race

The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses exceeded expectations in a year when AI gadgets flopped. But can it keep the momentum going?
