And now Lordstown is doing the same with its Endurance electric pickup to address “a specific electrical connection issue that could result in a loss of propulsion while driving.” Eek! It’s also voluntarily recalling 19 vehicles. Not a good look for an automaker that’s still struggling to keep its finances afloat as it slowly ramps up production.
Every car and tech journalists’ favorite EV is reportedly experiencing some worrisome issues with its latest software update. According to Jalopnik, the Ioniq 5 recently received a software update to help with battery conditioning, which resulted in the car’s Eco mode becoming dangerously slow. How dangerous we talking here?
With Eco mode engaged, and one-pedal driving turned on, I went for a drive where I eventually had to make an unprotected left turn across traffic. I pressed the throttle to the floor and the car crawled forward, right as I started to cross the flow of oncoming traffic. Suddenly, this 320-horsepower crossover was inching through the intersection, barely gaining any speed. I continued on my journey, mindful of the vehicle’s limited performance. Every other drive mode was normal, but in Eco mode, the Ioniq 5 felt more than slow — it felt broken.
Hyundai says another software update should fix the problem. But until then, enter Eco mode with extreme caution.
Like this person from Jenner, California, who said their Tesla vehicle “made very unexpected and wrong turn sharply to the right” while using the Full Self-Driving system. The vehicle gave them no time to respond, and it’s a miracle they weren’t seriously injured. Just something to keep in mind as the Tesla defenders leap into action in response to this latest recall.
The fire took place February 4th at a holding lot in Michigan during a pre-delivery quality inspection and “spread to another vehicle,” a Ford spokesperson told Automotive News. The automaker recently extended its temporary halt on production and shipment until at least the end of next week.
