The Z Fold 5 is the smallest update to Samsung’s folding phone yet.

Of all years to sleep on bringing new innovations to its folding phone, Samsung seems to have decided that its Z Fold 5 only needed the smallest of tweaks. At least they got rid of the hinge gap!

The Yoga Book 9i jettisons the traditional lower laptop deck for a second touchscreen, which opens up some interesting use cases along with some compromises.

A $1100 Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the cheapest way to participate in Hot Foldable Summer.

Look, the Pixel Fold is the new hotness and we know the Z Fold 5 is coming in just a couple weeks, but both of those are going to cost you close to $2,000. Last year’s Z Fold 4, meanwhile, is still an excellent device and with today’s $700 discount, much more attainable than those other folding phones.

    It’s pronounced Withings.

Co-founder of Withings, Eric Carreel, is setting the record straight on how exactly to pronounce the company’s name. According to Carreel, the correct pronounciation is “Wee-things”, because the Wi refers to Wi-Fi and in French, Wi-Fi is pronounced “Wee-Fee”.

I’m going to continue saying “With-ings”, but you do you.

Sony’s first ebook readers looked like mini laptops and used mini CDs.

You might not be aware, but Amazon didn’t invent the ebook reader with the Kindle.
ThisDoesNotCompute has a new video today taking a look at Sony’s Data Discman devices from the early 1990s, its first cut at an ebook reader that predated the Kindle by over a decade. The Data Discman was weird: a lot of the models looked like little laptops and instead of storing the books locally, you inserted cartridges into it. Inside the plastic cartridge were three-inch CDs.

Needless to say, it sucked, the book options were limited, battery life was bad, and it didn’t catch on. It would be a while before ebook readers took off, thanks to advancements in display technology like E Ink.

Amazon will apparently launch new devices in September.

We’re barely past the fourth of July, but Amazon has announced that it will be hosting an event to presumably launch new devices on September 20th. According to Dave Limp, the company’s head of devices and services, it will be hosted at the Amazon’s new HQ2 in Arlington, VA.

Perhaps the strangest part of this is Amazon chose to announce this on LinkedIn of all places?
