Google’s mobile Docs apps have always been weirdly limited and difficult to use compared to the web app that I spend a shocking amount of my day in, so I’m happy to see that Google is bringing them to (visual) parity in the near future.
Do the iPad app next, Google.
Bring it back, I say.
Wired’s Steven Levy tells the story of the photo shoot for the original iMac announcement with Steve Jobs, which Levy was covering for Newsweek at the time. In typical Jobs fashion, there was a lot of skepticism and reluctance, but in the end, it produced one of the most famous photos we have of the Apple co-founder.
The original iMac was released 25 years ago, we’ve got a series of pieces celebrating the computer’s silver anniversary if you missed them earlier this week.

Samsung’s highest-end tablets are more similar than ever, and this year, they come with water resistance. Here’s a guide on how to choose the right model for you.
In between burning his tongue on Hot Pockets and mimicking the audience’s internal monologue with a high-pitched voice, comedian Jim Gaffigan has also found time to blog about how annoying it is to keep his kids’ smartphones charged.
My dude, I’m with you, the only solution is to charge them yourself.
If the price tags of Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S9 tablets have put you off, you might not have to wait too long for some relief. According to some certification databases, industry leaks, and Samsung’s own websites, the company is planning to release a Tab S9 FE and Tab S9 Plus FE at some point in the near future.
Samsung’s FE (which cringily stands for “Fan Edition”) are generally less expensive than the flagship models they are inspired by, but remain quite capable in their own rights. I just wouldn’t expect the OLED screens that are on the proper Tab S9 models to show up on the FE versions.

If you’ve been using the Pocket app for Mac, it’s time to start saying your goodbyes, as Mozilla has announced it will be retiring the app on August 15th. Instead, it suggests those with Apple Silicon Macs use the iOS app (I personally do NOT recommend this) and anyone with an older Mac visit Pocket in the browser.
The Pocket Mac app did let you read things in your queue offline, but aside from that it has been neglected for years and was long overdue to be put out to pasture. Pocket has been undergoing a long term redesign of its apps and services (with decidedly mixed results) so I’m not terribly surprised to see this development.
Red Bull has a really interesting lookback on the Sony VX-1000, the camcorder that came out in 1995 and was quickly adopted by skaters as their equipment of choice.
There are many reasons the VX-1000 is considered the best skate video camera ever, even today, 28 years later, but two features stand out for changing the way skating was captured: the built-in handle and its microphones. Things are sharper and in higher resolution today, but if you ask me, the tricks look and sound better on the VX-1000.
