WhatsApp is launching the ability for everyone to create channels.

The Meta-owned app started widely rolling out the broadcasting feature in September, but it only let select influencers and brands (including The Verge) create their own channels to start.

In addition to letting more users start channels, Meta also announced that WhatsApp Channels now has over 500 million monthly active users in the seven weeks since its launch.

The FBI reportedly knew about the casino hackers six months before the MGM breach.

Sources tell Reuters the FBI “struggled to stop” the group of hackers that waged attacks on MGM and Caesars Entertainment in September — even though the agency knew the identities “of at least a dozen members” for more than six months. Some of the hackers are even based in the US, Reuters reports.

Rivian blames ‘fat finger’ on accidental update that may need physical servicing.

In a post on Reddit (via 404 Media), Rivian software vice president Wassym Bensaid shared the company “made an error” with the 2023.42 OTA update, causing the wrong build and wrong security certificate to go out to vehicles.

The issue, which affects the infotainment system, “may require physical repair in some cases,” Bensaid adds. Rivian says it will contact impacted customers to figure out potential solutions.

OnePlus is once again shipping its phone with bloatware from Meta.

The new OnePlus Open comes with three pre-installed apps: Facebook-installer, Facebook-services, and Meta App Manager, all of which you can’t easily remove. This isn’t the first time OnePlus has done this — it also pre-installed Facebook’s apps and services on the OnePlus 8T in 2020 but ended up removing them after user backlash.
