The WGA calls Hollywood producers’ counteroffer “neither nothing, nor nearly enough.”

After the AMPTP publicly released its counteroffer to striking writers yesterday, the WGA posted a more detailed update on their negotiations, stating the latest proposals offered by Hollywood studios still aren’t enough:

We will continue to advocate for proposals that fully address our issues rather than accept half measures... As we have repeated from the first day of our first member meeting — and on every day of this strike — our demands are fair and reasonable, and the companies can afford them.

Disclosure: The Verge’s editorial staff is also unionized with the Writers Guild of America, East.

Uber is upping its minimum driving age in California.

According to a report from the Associated Press, Uber is increasing its minimum driver age in California from 19 to 25 years old — a move it blames on rising insurance costs in the state:

Personal injury attorneys have created a cottage industry specializing in suing rideshare platforms like ours, pushing Uber’s California state-mandated commercial insurance costs to rise by more than 65% in just two years.

Californians under the age of 25 who signed up to the platform before Wednesday will get to keep driving for Uber.

Netflix subs continue to rise amidst its password-sharing crackdown.

According to data from analytics company Antenna, Netflix added 2.6 million subscribers in July, which it says is “elevated compared to normal.”

That’s still less than the spike in subscribers Netflix saw in June, but comes as yet another sign that Netflix’s paid-sharing rollout is actually working. Last month, Netflix said the password-sharing crackdown resulted in more signups than cancellations.
