According to Valve, emphasis mine:
As technology advances, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue support for older hardware, including DirectX 9 and 32-bit operating systems. Similarly, we will no longer support macOS. Combined, these represented less than one percent of active CS:GO players.
Moving forward, Counter-Strike 2 will exclusively support 64-bit Windows and Linux.
Valve will offer a “legacy version” of CS:GO for those platforms that “has all of the features of CS:GO except for official matchmaking.”
This feels like a blow for Apple’s push into higher-end gaming, but maybe things will change in the future.
Gmail for Wear OS came out last week, and now Google Calendar is here, as reported by 9to5Google. Nice to see these finally come out!
According to code in the latest iOS 17.1 beta found by 9to5Mac, when your iPhone is in your pocket, it will sense that and require a longer press on the Action Button to do whatever you’ve set for the button. That seems like a decent change, though I hope Apple focuses more on ways to customize what you can do with the button in future updates.
Bloomberg has a fascinating profile the recently-returned Disney CEO that’s packed with some juicy details about Iger’s and the company’s recent struggles. Like, for example: “On Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022, hours before Chapek was due to attend an Elton John concert broadcast on Disney+, he was fired.” Rough.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says it “won’t happen” in 2024 and “possibly” won’t arrive in 2025, either. That’s not a huge surprise — my colleague Victoria Song wrote a piece in March about the challenges facing noninvasive blood glucose monitoring, so it’s not surprising that the technology might be very far away even for Apple.
Kuo also says that we might not see an Apple Watch with a Micro LED screen until 2025 or 2026.
Nintendo says you can now try a demo of Super Mario Bros. Wonder at “select” Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart stores. The full game is scheduled to launch on October 20th.
It’s basically a pin? It looks like the disc drive is carrying some of the console’s weight, too.
If you want a vertical stand — something that came in the box with the original PS5 models — you’ll have to pay $29.99 for that.

Pac-Man Mega Tunnel Battle: Chomp Champs, a battle royale take on Pac-Man that was previously only available on Google Stadia before Stadia shut down, will get another chance on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X / X, Xbox One, and Steam, Bandai Namco announced on Tuesday. It’s set to release in “early 2024.”
Also, I regret to inform you that Nintendo just shut down Pac-Man 99. We knew the shutdown was coming, but I’m still sad to see it go.
