Easily make threads in Threads with three taps.

As shown by Instagram boss Adam Mosseri in a 💎 Hidden Gems 💎 thread (I’m just bringing over his emoji usage here), if you tap return three times in a row while composing a Threads post, you can make another post in the thread. I think it’s a really clever feature, and it’s one of my favorite features of the app.

He’s got a few other handy tricks in the full thread, though you can also see them all on video on his Instagram page.

Does anyone have a better username idea for me? Many expected variations of my name are taken or unavailable. This one is silly but I’m guessing I’ll be tired of it in a month or two.

Now GitHub will let you log in with a passkey.

The new feature that standardizes logging into accounts with your device’s authentication methods (like facial recognition or a fingerprint scan) instead of a password is now available in beta for GitHub accounts.

Passkeys are being adopted quickly by many tech companies, including Apple and Google, and Microsoft recently started testing expanded support for them within Windows.

Google was reportedly working on a chatbot for Gen Z called “Bubble Characters.”

Seriously! Sadly, the company has apparently deprioritized the work on the project, according to CNBC. I guess I’ll just have to ask Bard to respond to me in a Gen Z way instead.

Google has been sued over how it trains its AI products by scraping the web.

The complaint alleges that Google “has been secretly stealing everything ever created and shared on the internet by hundreds of millions of Americans” and using this data to train its AI products, such as its chatbot Bard. The complaint also claims Google has taken “virtually the entirety of our digital footprint,” including “creative and copywritten works” to build its AI products.

Google recently updated its privacy policy to say that it uses publicly available information from the web to train products like Bard.

Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells is retiring after 25 years at the studio.

Wells will leave the company at the end of the year, he said in a message sent to employees. Naughty Dog’s other co-president, Neil Druckmann, detailed what the studio’s leadership team will look like moving forward in another message sent to staff.

Naughty Dog is known for its work on franchises like The Last of Us and Uncharted. We spoke with Wells for our PlayStation 25th anniversary issue in 2019, and I really recommend you read the article.

A tool Reddit mods rely on is apparently being rate limited — even though Reddit said it wouldn’t be.

Toolbox is running into Reddit’s new API rate limits, but even CEO Steve Huffman said it should have free access. A Reddit admin (employee) says the company is looking into it.

Update July 11th, 6:40PM ET: The admin says the issue is fixed, and the user that posted the thread I linked to earlier about the issue says the issue appears to be resolved.

100 Thieves made a game in Fortnite.

The gaming / lifestyle / esports organization has a new game, Bank Heist, that you can play in Fortnite right now. It was built with the recently-launched Unreal Editor for Fortnite tools.

100 Thieves is also working on a separate video game that’s codenamed “Project X.”
