YouTuber Michael Fisher (aka MrMobile) has published an early look of the upcoming foldable’s hinge and durability tests ahead of its official announcement. Unfortunately, the video doesn’t contain the phone’s two most important specs (its IP-rating, and the total number of folds it’s rated to survive). I guess for those we’re going to have to wait until October 19th.

With the Xiaomi 14 series, likely to be announced later this year, the Chinese tech giant will start transitioning away from its longstanding Android skin MIUI in favor of “HyperOS,” CEO Lei Jun has announced. HyperOS has a “completely new rewritten architecture,” will be available globally, and from the sounds of things is being designed with Internet of Things devices in mind.
Just Eat is trialling a new AI-powered chatbot that’s designed to add items to your shopping basket in response to a query like “egg and cheese mcmuffin from mcdonalds.” It plans to pilot the assistant with UK users in the next few weeks, with a wider rollout to follow. Coincidentally, rival Uber Eats also plans to launch a similar chatbot this year.
First was X, then came Meta, now TikTok has put out a blog post on its moderation policies in response to EU commissioner Thierry Breton. The video platform says it’s removed over 500,000 videos and 8,000 livestreams in the region since the attacks on October 7th, and has also added more Arabic and Hebrew-speaking moderators to its ranks.
Mobile chipmaker Qualcomm has become the latest tech giant to conduct layoffs, eliminating 1,258 positions in its San Diego and Santa Clara offices, roughly 2.5 percent of its global workforce.
The layoffs were foreshadowed in the company’s last earnings report, where it blamed “the continued uncertainty in the macroeconomic and demand environment.” The cuts are expected to take place in mid-December and primarily affect engineers.
