Microsoft blocks terms that could let Copilot generate controversial images.

Blocked terms include “pro choice” and “pro life,” CNBC reported on Friday. The company made changes after one of its engineers complained to the Federal Trade Commission about the safety of its DALLE-3-powered Copilot Designer AI image generator.

Recently, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella promised to improve Copilot’s guardrails after explicit, Copilot-created images of Taylor Swift spread on X in January.

    Do ads work for Uber?

According to The Wall Street Journal, ride-hailing companies Uber and Lyft “say people are receptive to their ads,” with customers “less likely to cancel” their rides if they’re distracted by advertisements while they wait.

Uber has been cramming ads wherever it can, but it doesn’t work everywhere. The Journal writes that people hated them in push notifications so much that Uber cut those out in under a day, but folks don’t mind movie trailers on in-car tablets.

WhatsApp is testing identifying when chats are end-to-end encrypted on Android.

That’s according to WABetaInfo, which spotted that a new “end-to-end encrypted” indicator that appears briefly at the top of chat threads was under development in late January. Yesterday, the outlet reported that the test is now rolling out to beta testers.

The change is being tested as Meta rolls out third-party chat interoperability in the EU.

How hot does the 15-inch M3 MacBook Air get?

The new 15-incher peaked 46 degrees Celcius at the keyboard during a stress test. Last year, Max Tech measured the 2023 version at 43 degrees Celcius (albeit on a different benchmark test).

Was the Apple Car always going to be a van?

Mark Gurman collected many of the concepts the company considered for its recently shuttered Project Titan in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg today.

It’s a concise summary of Apple’s design thoughts over the ten years it devoted to trying to enter the automotive industry. Gurman writes of one idea:

The Apple car’s circa-2020 design resembled the Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle — a futuristic van with rounded edges — but it had dark black windows with an adjustable tint. There was all-glass sunroof, a pure white exterior and whitewall tires with a black center.

With the new MacBook Airs out, what’s the deal with those OLED iPad Pros?

Apple didn’t hold a Spring event, after all. But hey, we got dual external display support* on the M3 MacBook Air!

As for the embiggened iPad Air and OLED iPad Pros, Mark Gurman writes in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg today that they’re launching “around the end of March or in April,” along with iPadOS 17.4.

Now I want a Mario Kart 8 Lego Cup DLC.

Maybe that’s just wishful thinking after the Mario Kart tease for 2025 tacked onto the end of this Lego Mario Day video. I’m sure it’s just new sets, but that doesn’t stop my mind from racing with possibilities.

In the meantime, the video also has details on other, more immediate products, like a Luigi’s Mansion-themed set.

Here’s a short version of the Mario Kart clip.

Google Wallet can now import movie tickets and boarding passes automatically.

Google’s release notes say that passes will be transferred to the Wallet without user action when confirmation emails show up in Gmail from “some global movie chains and airlines.” (The company says it’s “working to expand this.”)

Wallet users can also now manually archive “most passes.” Check out a screenshot below from Android expert Mishaal Rahman.

“I can’t hear you over the nuclear accelerator!”

Get a load of Paul Rudd flipping a 180 in the Ecto-1, McKenna Grace firing a proton pack at a flying eel-like apparition, and Carrie Coon piloting a drone ghost trap in the latest clip from Ghost Busters: Frozen Empire.

The movie is out on March 22nd.
