Wi-Fi 7 is so fast that my ISP’s gigabit plan can’t keep up.

Neither can anything else I own. My smart home gear almost all uses either Wi-Fi 4, Thread, Zigbee, or Z-wave. My computers don’t even have Wi-Fi 6E and my Synology NAS only has gigabit ethernet. Same goes for my Xbox Series S (which tops out at Wi-Fi 5, by the way).

None of this is likely to change for me anytime soon. Wi-Fi 7 sounds great — really great, in fact — but you do not need it.

The Google News team just got a little smaller.

Google reportedly laid off between 40 and 45 employees in its news division this week. CNBC reported the layoff, citing an Alphabet Workers Union spokesperson and a confirmation from Google itself.

According to CNBC, the Google spokesperson said the team still employs hundreds of people. The job cuts are part of an ongoing trend in the tech world, including larger layoffs at Google earlier this year.

Early this morning, Meta updated a blog post about its efforts regarding the war. The company detailed some changes it has made, including new, more limited default visibility settings for public posts made in the region, and making it easier for users to mass-delete comments on their posts.

Meta also said it had fixed several global bugs impacting the spread of information in the region.

Good news comes to those who use HomePods as their TV speakers.

A feature that’s been exclusive to the newest HomePod is coming to the Mini and original models. According to MacRumors, the HomePod software 17.1 update will give those speakers the Enhance Dialogue feature for hearing clearer dialogue when paired with an Apple TV 4K.

Wonderful, now my kid can get crystal-clear audio from the HomePod Mini behind our living room TV while she’s watching Catch! Teenieping.

    Unrelated: Send help.

Rumors of the demise of rumors of a mini-LED iMac were greatly exaggerated.

Whispers have percolated for a while saying there’s a bigger iMac coming. But whatever happened to that rumored mini-LED display?

Well, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revived that particular rumor today with a post predicting a 2025 iMac with mini-LED. Otherwise, he says the next 24-inch iMac refresh is due next year. What, no October iMac?
