Blink might have a new camera on the way.

Amazon’s cheap smart camera subsidiary looks to be prepping a new camera, according to Zatz Not Funny!

The article speculates that Blink’s new camera will replace the current third generation model and won’t see any major change to price or video quality. Still, cheap and long-lived is worth a lot in the smart security camera world.

Formula E racer Stoffel Vandoorne says his team wasn’t trying to steal data.

Over the weekend, Formula E team DS Penske was caught having installed an RFID scanner in the pit lane that could grab “live data from all other cars” and the team was penalized.

Vandoorne accepted responsibility, says Autosport, but said his team wasn’t doing anything others weren’t already:

We were just trying to check what set of tyres others were using, which you can do with a normal camera. The other teams are doing that, they are using photographers in the pitlane. We found a clever way, or an easy way, and we paid a big price for that.

Vandoorne finished the Portland race in 12th place, while his teammate, Jean-Eric Vergne, placed 11th.

There are big hacks in Cowtown as hacktivists stole pothole data from Fort Worth, Texas.

The hacker group SiegedSec has claimed responsibility, via Telegram, for a June 23rd data breach that was announced the next day on the City of Fort Worth’s website.

The group may not have gotten much — the city says it was mostly “materials related to work orders” (via TechCrunch):

An example may include the address of a home with a pothole in the City street in front of the home that needs to filled, as well as a picture of the pothole.

Apple and Broadcom owe Caltech $1.1 billion after the Supreme Court spurned their challenge.

In 2016, Caltech sued Apple and Broadcom over patent violations in Apple product Wi-Fi chips. A federal jury in 2020 awarded Caltech over $837.8 million from Apple and $270.2 million from Broadcom.

The companies appealed the decision, saying they weren’t allowed to challenge the patents’ validity, but today, the Supreme Court declined to hear the case.

Ikea’s got more smart home sensors coming.

The two FCC filings spotted by Zatz Not Funny! reveal a new two-piece open/close sensor (Ikea’s first) called the Parasoll that tells you the current state of a door or window, and its second IP44-rated (splash-proof) motion sensor called Vallhorn.

They’ll use AAA batteries and were tested with Ikea’s newer Dirigera Matter hub. The filings list IoT maker Leedarson as Ikea’s collaborator.
