Highguard’s last hurrah.

A week from today, squad-based shooter Highguard will be shutting down for good. But over that time players will get to mess around with a just-launched final update that adds a lot to the game, including a new character and weapon, and account progression. Check out the full patch notes.

HBO’s Green Lantern series looks too grounded for its own good.

The entire point of HBO’s upcoming Lanterns series is to introduce new incarnations John Stewart and Hal Jordan — two superpowered space cops — to DC Studios’ cinematic universe. But Lanterns first teaser trailer makes it seem like the show might feel much more like True Detective when it premieres in August.

A return to the seas.

In a new blog post about the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Ubisoft sneakily announced Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, a remake of Black Flag that has been rumored for years.

Ubisoft also says to “expect” news “very soon” about Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series.

Fortnite is returning to Google Play globally.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney made the announcement alongside the news of Google’s sweeping Android App Store changes. The game already returned to Google Play in the US in December.

The Switch 2’s Virtual Boy lineup is getting two new games.

If you have a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, you’ll be able to play the Virtual Boy version of Mario Tennis and a game called Mario Clash starting March 10th. (That’s Mario Day.) Nintendo is also adding the Game Boy Advance version of Mario vs. Donkey Kong to the service.

Confirmed: the new Castlevania game isn’t a roguelike.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, set to launch this year, is being made by Konami and two studios behind the roguelike Dead Cells, Evil Empire and Motion Twin. Given the history of those two studios, I asked Konami if Belmont’s Curse was a roguelike, and the answer is that it’s not.

Castlevania Belmont’s Curse is a 2D Action-Exploration game where players can freely explore vast, elaborately crafted maps,” Tommy Williams, Konami’s Head of Communications for the Americas, tells The Verge. “It is not a roguelike or roguelite game.”

For the Scavengers Reign fans out there.

Jonathan Djob Nkondo, an artist who helped shape the sci-fi show’s distinctly alien look, launched a Kickstarter for a pair of graphic novels that look very similar in tone. The campaign already surpassed its goal, and the books are expected to start shipping later this year. (Fun fact: he also contributed to the beautiful new Gorillaz short film.)

Audible’s new subscription option is less expensive, but lacks a major perk.

The new “standard” Audible subscription announced on Tuesday costs $8.99/month, compared to $14.95/month for the existing premium plan. Users on the standard plan get one audiobook each month, but unlike premium subscribers, don’t keep access to those audiobooks if they cancel their subscription.

Correction: Audible’s “standard” tier does not issue audiobook credits.

U.S. government and Live Nation begin their battle over the concert industry.

I’m at the courthouse in downtown Manhattan, where the DOJ and 40 state and district attorneys general are accusing the entertainment titan of maintaining an illegal monopoly that drives up ticket prices.

It’s almost question time.

Pokopia is out this week, and it’s one of the more interesting Pokémon spinoffs, mashing up games like Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and Dragon Quest Builders. If you’re curious just what’s going on in the game, The Verge’s poké-experts Charles Pulliam-Moore and Kallie Plagge will be answering questions at 2PM ET.

Adidas’ 3D-printed sneakers grow laces.

The Climacool sneakers I reviewed last year are now available in an all-white colorway, complete with ghost stripes and white laces. The $160 Climacool Laced kicks are 15 percent lighter, thankfully, and available to buy worldwide from adidas.com and via the Adidas app. The $140 slip-ons are back in stock too.

Wondering what was popular during Steam Next Fest?

If you are, Valve has a list of the 50 most-played demos. I only dabbled with a few, but I loved the one for the Vampire Survivors spinoff Vampire Crawlers.

Chilling effect go brrr…

Jason Lee had this profile killed from an unnamed magazine because he didn’t like being asked a question about Scientology. Defector is publishing it anyway. Are there any cool Gen Xers? Starting to feel like the answer is no.

The AP is partnering with Kalshi.

The outlet will provide Kalshi with elections-related data — namely, vote counts and race calls — that will be available on the predictions market platform. The AP licenses its elections data to many sources (including other news outlets). What’s notable is that Kalshi and other predictions markets are increasingly blurring the line between actual news and a thing a guy online decided to put money on.

I suspect a bunch of Kalshi users are about to learn about the percentage of votes counted the hard way.

Another video game event.

The first two months of the year have been bust with showcases from Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, and The Pokémon Company. And now Nintendo is back with its latest Indie World event. It’s streaming on March 3rd at 9AM ET, and Nintendo says it’ll be around 15 minutes long.

The Paramount x Warner Bros. deal ain’t done yet.

While Trump’s federal regulators are seemingly in the bag for Larry Ellison’s big dumb gift to his large adult son, The New York Times notes that state attorneys general can sue to block mergers in the US, and EU regulators will have a say since properties like HBO Max and CNN are offered globally.

Outages are plaguing AO3.

The popular fanfiction archive has been up and down since around noon ET yesterday. While service was temporarily restored by 8PM ET, the platform went down again shortly after, and will remain so for “at least several hours” while AO3 attempts to resolve the issue.

Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos says he’s not pivoting to another studio after losing out on Warner Bros.

In an interview with Bloomberg, he explained why he backed out of the deal and said Netflix pursued Warner because it was a unique opportunity. “We definitely wanted this asset. We didn’t need it,” he said, praising its “incredible IP” and long history. But he was clear the plan was to just move on:

Is there a world in which you guys go after another studio in the next 6 to 12 months?

Unlikely. We are builders, not buyers. All that is still true.

So how are you going to use that $2.8 billion?

Just keep investing in the business.

Radiohead tells ICE to “go f*ck yourselves” after it used Let Down in a social post.

The band didn’t mince any words in the statement after a choral version of the song was used in a video claiming that “Thousands of American families have been torn apart because of criminal illegal alien violence,” saying:

We demand that the amateurs in control of the ICE social media account take it down. It ain’t funny, this song means a lot to us and other people, and you don’t get to appropriate it without a fight.

Also, go fuck yourselves… Radiohead

Dash those Bloodborne remake hopes.

In his deep dive about PlayStation’s closure of Bluepoint Games, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says that Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake in 2025, but FromSoftware “didn’t want it to happen.” Bummer.

Spotify launches audiobook charts and a lot of people are still listening to Atomic Habits.

Wuthering Heights being number one makes sense; it just got a blockbuster adaptation. But why is the 8-year-old self-help book from James Clear number two?

Spotify’s new lists also include genre-specific charts, so you don’t have to scroll past 37 steamy thrillers just to find your next dystopian sci-fi.
