A niche market.

Luxury / trashy phone brand Vertu is back with its first book-style foldable, the Alphafold, an “AI command center” for busy rich people. It sounds like it’s found its audience.

Akarain8:

Finally a phone that fits my lifestyle at the intersection of Texan ranch owner, middle-eastern oil baron, and YouTube AI ‘content creator’.

Aqara’s new smart locks work with almost any door.

The Aqara U500 lineup includes three separate models. There’s a “Rim Lock” for standard entrance and interior doors that doesn’t require a mortise, a “Gate Lock” for metal grille-style doors, and even a lock that’s designed for glass doors. They’re only available in Europe for now though.

Cherry is the new orange.

According to leaker and journalist Sonny Dickson, that is, who shared photos of iPhone 18 dummy units — though these look like Pro models, due this fall, with the regular 18 likely launching next spring. Dickson got last year’s iPhone 17 colors almost dead-on, meaning this brand new cherry color is probably accurate.

Baseus’s compact iPhone power bank is $30 off.

The Baseus PicoGo AM52 is marked down to $39.29 (about $31 off) at Amazon when you use code AM52CODE at checkout. The compact, magnetic battery pack clips directly to the back of newer iPhones, giving you an extra 10,000mAh of juice when you need it most. It supports Qi2.2 for 25W wireless charging or 45W via the USB-C port, which are nice touches for such a small battery.

Old-school gamers continue to find CRT joy.

Gaming and a renewed interest in physical media like VHS tapes (mixed with good ol’ nostalgia) continue to drive the niche CRT market, which had a boom during the pandemic after some restoration struggles. From Minnesota parking lot deals to global capers, the lure of scan lines holds strong.

Acer’s new convertible laptop houses Snapdragon X2 chips and a garaged stylus.

Acer is leading off its early Computex announcements with a new 2-in-1 laptop, the Swift Spin 14 AI. It’ll pack Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus and X2 Elite chips when it arrives in the US in August (July for other regions), and it’ll also include a stylus stored its chassis. Neat.

Pricing is TBD.

This is the first Spin 2-in-1 for Acer’s mid-range Swift line.
Starting configs will have the cheaper Snapdragon X2 Plus chip, but configurations with the X2 Elite will go up to 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage.
The panel on all models will be a 14-inch 1920 x 1200 / 120Hz IPS touchscreen, with Wacom AES 2.0 stylus support (like Acer’s included pen). As for ports: HDMI 2.1, two USB4, two USB-A 3.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

A roughly $300 laptop? In this economy?

This is Acer’s Aspire Go 15 AG15-Q31P, a budget laptop built on Qualcomm’s just-announced Snapdragon C platform. Acer didn’t share its price or release date by the time I wrote these words, but Qualcomm says the platform unlocks roughly $300 laptops — despite RAMageddon. Corners cut, surely. The specs we know are here.

Looks OK from here, right? (Two USB-C and HDMI on the other side.)

Vertu’s new luxury foldable phone is an AI ‘command center.’

The Alphafold costs $6,880 (and that’s if you want to slum it with a calfskin finish), with more expensive options including alligator leather, gold, and diamonds. That gets you a year-old Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip, a five-megapixel telephoto (yes, five, not 50), and an AI agent called Hermes.

So, would you dope for $10 million?

Well, I was too busy putting the finishing touches on my feature about the Enhanced Games to notice that the company is now offering a $10 million prize for sprinters who can break Usain Bolt’s 100m record of 9.58 seconds at the Enhanced Games 2027. Oh boy. Here we go.

Memory money: SK Hynix, Micron, and Samsung are all trillion-dollar companies now.

As the Wall Street Journal reports, SK Hynix and Micron both passed the milestone this week. The spike in value for the world’s three largest DRAM manufacturers follows a months-long global memory shortage, driven by demand from AI data centers, that’s causing prices to skyrocket on everything from phones to game consoles.

A 140W wall adapter that won’t fall out of your outlet is $20 off.

Anker’s wall charger is capable of delivering up to 140W for a single USB-C device, or splitting it between up to four devices. Its bottom-facing port array is its most notable trait, reducing the likelihood of it falling out of your outlet. Normally $79.99, it’s now $59.99 at Best Buy and on Best Buy’s eBay page.
