Netflix reportedly has around 1.5 million subscribers on its ad tier in the US.

Netflix is a couple of hours away from releasing its latest quarterly earnings data. And other than strikes by Hollywood writers and actors spurred at least partially by the business model it pioneered, major questions include the impact of account-sharing restrictions and ads.

The Information reports Netflix has recently told advertisers the 1.5 million number for US ad-plan subscribers, which could explain why it’s trying to push that number higher by removing the cheapest ad-free subscription option

A live action He-Man will not be in Netflix’s universe.

A new planned adaption of Masters of the Universe is dead in the water at Netflix, according to Variety. But Mattel is going to be shopping it around in the hopes that this weekend’s Barbie gets some buyers interested at another studio.

If it does get made this will actually be the second live action adaptation. The first one starred…Dolph Lundgren and Courteney Cox.

What if the next big social media app... is nothing?

Enjoyed this Bloomberg story about the possibility that we are all old and tired, sick of seeing each other’s bad posts, and hoping to touch grass:

In 2022, according to GWI’s latest report, daily time spent [online] fell by 13 minutes. It’s now six hours and 43 minutes a day, slightly lower than it was in 2017. The drop was the biggest since the company started tracking the topic and suggested, as GWI’s report put it, “that we’ve reached a kind of internet saturation point.”

I guess I’m not the only one who’s been seasoning their cast iron!

65 crash lands on Netflix.

Remember 65, the Sam Raimi-produced sci-fi thriller from writer / directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods about a man and a young girl whose space ship crashes on a dinosaur-infested planet that seems a lot like Earth during the Cretaceous Period? The one starring Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt? It’s streaming on Netflix now.

Netflix created a new method for green screen production that involves... magenta.

It’s called, fittingly, Magenta Green Screen, and it can “produce realistic visual effects for film and television in real time,” according to New Scientist. Check it out in action in this short video.

I’m no expert, but this new method does appear to place the actors pretty believably in front of the green screen background.

Get caught up on Oxenfree before the sequel drops.

The spooky teen adventure game Oxenfreewhich is now under the Netflix umbrella — is getting a sequel called Lost Signals on July 12th. But given that the original came out years ago, you’ve probably forgotten what actually happened on Edwards Island — which is likely why Netflix put out this handy recap.

And if you haven’t played Oxenfree yet, it’s only a few hours long, and just the thing if you’re in the mood for a Stranger Things vibe.
