Netflix’s Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is an “anime” the same way Justin Trudeau is the president of Canada. But if the series’ opening credit sequence is any indication, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is going to resonate with the North American otaku set when it hits Netflix on November 17th.

Netflix is at an all-time high. Disney is cracking down on password sharing. And Apple TV Plus has doubled its prices. Will the streaming squeeze ever end?
The assassin at the heart of Netflix’s adaptation of The Killer from director David Fincher has to be extremely good at what he does in order to stay in business.
But rather than putting an emphasis on its central character’s unique talents, The Killer’s latest trailer emphasizes that the most important thing about being an assassin is not giving fuck about getting your hands dirty.
Earlier today, we posted about AdExchanger’s report that raised questions about whether Netflix is showing fewer commercials to those who cancel their subscription and then re-subscribe to Netflix’s ad-supported tier.
But Netflix spokesperson Nikki Merkouris tells The Verge this isn’t the case, saying “We do not alter the ad load,” and that it has always averaged about four minutes per hour.

This report from AdExchanger lays out some evidence supporting this, with reporter Alyssa Boyle noticing fewer commercials on Netflix’s ad-supported tier after canceling her subscription and then subscribing again.
The ads didn’t stay light the entire time though, as Boyle noticed the ads gradually increasing as she watched more shows. We still don’t know whether or not Netflix actually does this, but we’ve reached out to them to find out.
If it weren’t for his 2021 Netflix deal, Tyler Perry might not still be making Madea movies, and because their last partnership worked out so well, the streamer is bringing Perry back with a new multi-year, writing / directing / producing contract.

The red light / green light doll, marbles, the glass stepping stones... all of Squid Game’s greatest hits are in Netflix’s new trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge, which debuts on November 22nd.
Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder came out on the same day (October 20th), and unfortunately for those of us with limited free time, they’re both excellent. Good luck squeezing them both into your weekend.
Elsewhere, you can catch up on the story of Alan Wake inside of Fortnite ahead of next week’s sequel, go on a trippy stroll through Ubisoft history with Captain Laserhawk on Netflix, or be terrified by something living in your phone.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix plays like a joyride through Ubisoft’s vast library of classic video game IP.
When asked a question about Netflix’s pricing on Wednesday’s Q3 2023 earnings call, co-CEO Greg Peters reiterated the company’s general approach, saying that the company will “occasionally ask” customers to “pay a bit more” to keep the “virtuous circle spinning” of subscription payments being being invested in content for the service.
He added that, over time, the company is looking to have a “wider” range of price points, so we could see more pricing levels at some point in the future. Netflix raised prices for some plans on Wednesday.
The streamer might’ve just announced another price increase for its Basic and Premium plans, but there is a sliver of good news for those subscribed to its $6.99 tier. Netflix announced that it will start letting users on the plan download TV shows and movies starting next month.
Only Netflix knows why it didn’t kick off this year’s Geeked Week with these new looks at the cast of its live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
But if these stills of Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu), Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu), their father Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim), and his brother Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee) are any indication, The Last Airbender is absolutely going to clear in the production design / costuming departments. Hopefully, that’ll be true of all the VFX, too.
