AI is on a collision course with music — Reservoir’s Golnar Khosrowshahi thinks there’s a way through

The publisher behind the songwriting copyrights to some of the most popular music ever recorded doesn’t think AI spells doom for the industry.

9,270 comments received.

At midnight ET tonight, the US Copyright Office will close its extended public comment period for how copyright should play with AI. And while I’m not seeing the absolute circus that we got with 22 million (mostly fake) net neutrality comments, it’s received a respectable number so far! I’m looking forward to digging into them.

Stability AI, Tiktok, and several governments signed an agreement to fight AI-generated CSAM.

The resolution doesn’t offer many specifics, but it’s the latest sign that AI-generated images of child sexual abuse are becoming a priority for platforms and law enforcement — even if it’s still framed as an “emerging” problem.

The UK announced the agreement ahead of an AI safety summit later this week, and agencies from Italy, Germany, the US, Korea, and Australia signed it, as did OnlyFans, Snapchat, and a variety of child safety nonprofits.

G7 economies will agree to an AI code of conduct for businesses on Monday.

As the White House preps to announce a new executive order aimed at AI companies, Reuters reported that the G7 will agree on an international rulebook for AI responsibility.

Reuters says the 11-point voluntary agreement, which has no regulatory weight, is meant to encourage responsible AI development, including encouraging companies to report on progress and mitigate current and future risks.

Google, Amazon, and Microsoft funnel billions into rival AI companies.

There is just so much money flying in this colossal AI arms race.

• Microsoft has poured as much as $13 billion into OpenAI.

• Amazon recently reported a potentially $4 billion investment in the Google-backed Anthropic.

• Now The Wall Street Journal reports that Google will slide Anthropic a cool $2 billion over time on top of its previous investments in the company.

President Joe Biden may issue a major executive order regarding artificial intelligence next week.

The order, expected to be issued as soon as Monday, would streamline high-skilled immigration, create a raft of new government offices and task forces and pave the way for the use of more AI in nearly every facet of life touched by the federal government, from health care to education, trade to housing, and more.

Nothing, Forever is currently nothing, forever.

The AI-generated Seinfeld-like Twitch show (which was briefly banned for transphobic content) is, as I write this, completely silent, as spotted by a Twitter user Friday morning.

I reached out to Skyler Hartle, a co-creator of the project that I spoke to earlier this year, to ask what might be going on, but I haven’t heard back.
